The Convergence Room
Is AI working for you? Twenty leaders. One dinner. One cat who heard everything.
University Club of San Francisco · Nob Hill · 27 October 2026
On a Tuesday night in late October, about twenty leaders from banking, fintech, retail, healthcare, security and tech sat down to dinner in the Black Cat Bar and the dining room next to it. No logos on the walls, no pitch. Just one question, served like a main course: is AI actually working for you?
Your narrator is Tombstone, the black marble cat on the bar. Legend has it a black cat scurried out of the rubble of the 1906 earthquake, and tradition says anything said behind the Black Cat is off the record. So this story keeps that promise.
Who’s who
- Ankor · host, who set the menu of questions
- Ronnie · moderator, who kept the room honest
- Namit · host, who has heard this in many cities
- Sukruth · host, who spotted the convergence
The hosts are drawn as themselves. Every guest is an invented face with a role tag such as “— A DIGITAL BANK”: the ideas are real, the faces are not.
